Hi

Been lurking on the forum for a couple of weeks, picking up a few tips to improve my scroll 7.
Rooted, renamed the Phone stuff, replaced Build.prop and so on.

I followed the instructions in first post and chose to ignore the warning about 1.02, 1.02s etc. (It needs changing to don't use on 1.02s)

Since attempting to install Clockworkmod i,ve been unable to boot into recovery.
Never attempted to boot into recovery before so it could just be me being a spanner :oops:

Have tried the files uploaded as 1.02s, the clockworkmod converted to 8k by someone a couple of pages back and another version of clockworkmod supposedly in 8k pages i found somewhere?
Flashed all the above recovery images directly on the scroll using terminal, from command prompt on pc using ADB and using the batch file method in the first post(editing the batch file for each image).

Any suggestions on how to get some form of recovery available would be greatly appreciated.
Scroll is working fine other than no recovery available.

Hi Strawb, welcome to the forum

The 1.02S dumped files should work, although I havent personally used them. Ill leave this for one of the more android-competent people to try and help you, someone will assist soon. :D

@strawb

Hi Steve,

Apologies if you've already checked this but, do you have a file /system/etc/install-recovery.sh on your machine? If you do, the scroll will be writing over any recovery image you install. You can delete this file using

adb remount
adb shell rm /system/etc/install-recovery.sh

You should then be able to install one of the 8k ClockworkMod recovery images. I installed mine by copying the file onto the SDcard and then, from the Scroll terminal emulator : -

flash_image recovery /sdcard/<whatever your recovery image is named>

Hi bloggs

Had checked for /system/etc/install-recovery.sh using root explorer before and couldn't find it.

Used
"adb remount
adb shell rm /system/etc/install-recovery.sh" and get "rm failed for /etc/install-recovery.sh, no such file or directory" so it looks like i don't have it anyway.

Installed clockwork 8k image from sdcard using terminal again and still no recovery mode.
I'm holding Vol+ and pressing power on then releasing both at the white Scroll by storage options screen, if i press both for longer it freezes at the Scroll by storage options screen.

If you hold vol- (not+) and power what happens?

@strawb

hmmm ...

And you definitely have a v1.02s machine? Can you try

Code: Select all
adb shell cat /proc/yaffs

and check that the output shows a totalBytesPerChunk value of 8192. I've been assuming that all the 1.02s machines are 8k paged, but maybe not?

Failing that, it might be useful to see what's actually being written to your recovery partition. Can you try

Code: Select all
adb shell "cat /dev/mtd/mtd6 > /sdcard/myrecovery.img"

and upload the myrecovery.img file from your sdcard to somewhere we can read it (e.g. http://www.MegaUpload.com)

@Fonefixer
Get exactly the same result using vol+ or Vol-, if i hold until seeing white scroll by storage options screen it boots as normal, if i hold for 20s or whatever it freezes at the white scroll by storage options screen.
Have checked and once booted Vol+ and Vol- are working as expected.

@bloggs

From: Settings>About Device
Model number: Scroll(SCR051624)
Firmware Version: v1.02s
Baseband Version: v1.02s
Kernel Version: 2.6.29

Result of "adb shell cat /proc/yaffs"
TotalBytesPerChunk is showing 8192

Image file dumped using "adb shell "cat /dev/mtd/mtd6 > /sdcard/myrecovery.img""

Off to watch the Senna documentary now.

Thanks for all the ideas guys.

@Strawb

Your recovery partition is identical to mine, with the exception of some of the unused area after the main image data where there are some FFs where I have zeros - I don't think that's important.

What happens if you try: -

adb reboot recovery

Does it still hang at the Scroll Options screen?
